240J Silamide Waxed Hand Sewing Thread
This thread is designed specifically for high quality tailors
and we supply many of the Savile Row shops.
It is a synthetic thread designed to have the same visual appearance as silk thread but
with greater strength and consistency to ensure that it is the best thread to use for reliable trouble free sewing.
High
quality tailors use this thread because it is very strong and easy to work with. The pre-cut lengths provide the optimum length to
work with, for each single arm stroke. Also, the threading of the needle is easy because the thread has just the correct stiffness
to go easily through the eye of the needle.
Where all of the parts of the coat are joined by hand stitching, and the lining and
interlining, decorative buttons, hook & eyes and Keska clips are attached by hand sewing, you are able to take 2 or 3 passes with
the needle and then pull through the thread. The thread slides through, without puckering the lining or the fabric.
The skeins have
a brass metal grommet at the top of the pack so they can hang near the workstation then you can just pull a precut length out of the
appropriate color skein, and sew quickly.
The thread is supplied in skeins as follows:
| Size | Metres per skein | Length of each piece (metre) |
| A | 615 | 1.25 |
Colour
Range – 40 colours available from the standard shade card. A more extensive shade card is available and these can be delivered to
order (subject to a minimum quantity of skeins).
